Team Cooley

Richard and Georgina Sheane live in Glenealy, Co. Wicklow and have established the Cooley prefix and team. The facilities were originally set up at Ballinacoola by Georgina’s parents and include an excellent cross country course which was developed in the 90’s and now sees the annual running of Ballinacoola CIC* and CIC** Horse Trials

Ballinacoola is bordered by hundreds of acres of forestry in a picturesque valley of Glenealy. The miles of forestry tracks are highly suitable for training horses as they cover many natural obstacles such as rivers, ditches and banks over which the horses are regularly schooled. The farm also has a “playground style” cross country course with over 100 fences.

The aim of Cooley Sport Horses is to produce World Class event horses from their base in Ballinacoola. Ideally located in the heart of Wicklow, the horses have easy and regular access to training shows at top class locations such as Boswell and Barnadown.

Cooley jumping horses are produced by Steven Smith in Barnadown, Gorey, Co. Wexford which is just a half an hour from Glenealy. Juliet Wood is the resident jockey for Cooley Event Horses. Juliet moved from New Zeland to take up this position. She has represented her country at Young Rider level and is a member of the NZ Talent Identification Squad. This year see her compete the “Cooley” horses, including Cooley Blue Flame who will represent the Irish Stud book at the 7 year old World Championships in France in October.
