History
Richard Sheane was born into a County Wicklow farming family whose roots in the area can be traced back over 150 years. Horse breeding and training has always been an important part of the Sheane farm and Richard's grandfather, Arthur, was legendary for his natural understanding of horses. It was here that Richard first started to develop his eye for a top class horse by learning from his Grandfather's sixty years of invaluable experience. Arthur specialised in the breeding & training of top Registered Irish Draughts (R.I.D.) and Showjumpers, many of whom qualified for National Championships. He sold horses to the Whittakers and sold one of the first Irish Showjumpers to Saudi Arabia. Arthur's ability as a horse man won him many top rewards including the Utility class at the Dublin Horse Show for 4 years running - this competition includes carriage driving, show jumping and equitation. He also won the much acclaimed R.I.D. championship in the Royal Dublin Horseshow and appeared with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Balmoral International Horse Show.
